Welcome to the Pacific Color Printers. This camera club is friends first, and friendly competition second. We meet the third Sunday of each month (except December and when there is a conflict with Mother's Day or Father's Day). We meet at the home of Ted Peterson, 8686 SW Oak St, Tigard OR. Call Carl Foleen for directions at (503) 234-3675, or send a fax to (503) 239-4225. Carl's most frequently used e-mail address is P47_fan@yahoo.com
.

MEMBERS PRESENT

Ted Peterson hosted the following members for the Feb. meeting: Cal Oberg: Ted Peterson, Bob Baker, Ben Cadman, Al Foleen, Emil Barr (fractured leg and all), Hazel Barr, and Carl Foleen, attended this meeting. Wini Erickson is AWOL. The Guest Gallery included Connie and Chris Foleen. Note: Please See: Addendum at the end of this bulletin.

CLUB BUSINESS

CLUB DUES are $7.50 per person and payable now.
Please Check That Your Dues Are Paid.
Does any club member have some lights to bring to meetings to facilitate flower photography? The only "hitch" at the February meeting was the lack of suitable lighting to photograph the beautiful "Drumbeat Heritage" orchid Ben Cadman brought to the meeting. The other alternative would be to slave several flashes together and use that as a lighting method. This may be a better choice, considering the fact that "hot lights" tend to drive up the ambient room temperature. Now - what would be a suitable background for the pictures? Do we need (or have) some additional backgrounds that may "spice up" the pictures? If you have something you would like to try, bring it along. There is no limit to the creativity of this group.
There are a couple of spare copies of the Speaker's Notes from the Seminar available. If anyone needs another set, or would like a set mailed to someone that requests a copy, please let the club secretary know.
Please be thinking about the points that you would like to be covered in the May Digital Seminar. E-mail your request(s) to Carl for inclusion in the list.
For club members venturing into digital photography, this was a valuable Seminar, focusing on the building blocks of how to scan an image, and how to set that image up for optimum results when it is printed.
With the addition of another print maker this (February), our print count for competition is once again higher (more prints to judge - "a good thing".

ANNOUNCEMENTS

If you are going to be trying digital photo printing, take some time to check out the different photo paper offerings at Art Media. You may be surprised at the interesting varieties of photo paper they offer. There are also sample images to view so that there is a chance to compare the various merits of the different kinds of paper surfaces and textures. It is worth your time to take a look.
Photographer's delight: Portland's Japanese Gardens will begin their summer hours of operation beginning April First. The hours will be 10 AM to 7 PM Tuesday through Sunday and Noon to 7 PM on Mondays.
Also on the subject of the Japanese Photography Workshop at the Japanese Gardens from 8 AM to 5 PM on April 27th, Reservations are required, so if you would like to attend, call the Japanese Gardens at 503-223-1321.
If you own a Leica rangefinder or Hasselblad camera, you may not know that Custom Camera Craft (CCC)(proprietor: Bill Crispien) is still in business at 5824 NE Martin Luther King, JR. Blvd. The CCC repair prices are reputed to be quite reasonable. Most CCC customers I have talked to will tell you his work is better than repair work done at the manufacturer's repair facilities on the East Coast.
For those of you that can indulge your sweet tooth, there will be a Springtime Chocolate Celebration at Portland's Old Church on April 12th-13th and April 19th and 20th.
If you want to mix your pleasures, wait until the weekend of April 19th and 20th, then attend the Chocolate Celebration, then head on over to Portland's Expo Center for the Spring Beer and Wine Festival. Loads of locally handcrafted beers and several local wineries will also be represented. (If you go, you may want to try Sokol Blosser's Number Nine.) There will also be some musical entertainment at the Beer and Wine Festival.
A little further out and about, the annual Northwest Cherry Festival will be taking place from April 19th to the 27th in The Dalles.
If you want to travel a little more, combine the Cherry Festival with the Blossom Festival in Hood River. There should be some interesting photographic opportunities in both places.
To round out April, the Crab and Seafood Festival will be taking place in Astoria from April 26th to 28th. Attractions will include handcrafted brews, local blues singer Linda Hornbuckle will provide some of the entertainment, and there will even be a petting zoo for the munchkins. It all takes place at the Clatsop Country Fairgrounds.

ADDENDUM

The March meeting was rather quiet... Emil and Hazel Barr decided to let Emil's ankle recuperate at home, rather than travel on it. Bob Baker was in Arizona taking in Cactus League spring training games for professional bsebaall teams that have their Spring Training Camps down there.
A phone call also garnered some rather sad news for Pacific Color Printers (and PSA for that matter). Winni Erickson has decided to drop her memberships in PSA, 4 C's, NWCC, and PCP. She tells The Easel's editor that it's a decision that has been coming for some time, and that she needs a little more time outside of her photographic circle. She noted that she still intends to attend the Club Picnic this summer. There is a small chance we will see her at other special events the club puts on in the future, but that she will no longer be a regular participant and attend every club meeting.
Chrysta and Carl Foleen went to Ted's house in the hope that there would still be a club meeting, but there were only three club members in attendance (Ted, Chrysta, and Carl). Ben Cadman called and said that he had a lot of snow and he could not drive from Seaside.
The meeting time was used to get an in-depth look at some of the work that Ted is doing for PSA with his computer, and to look at (and comment on) one of the slide circuits Ted belongs to.
The April meeting should be a great one - hope to see every one there.
Carl Foleen - Secretary/Treasurer
